Localisation

This term was coined recently to identify all the activities that allow a resource (for example, software or machinery) to be used in the manner most appropriate to the place of use. This involves adapting EVERYTHING to the local situation, conditions of use and culture whilst observing the local regulations in force.

Software poses the majority of the problems connected with localisation. The translation of commands and messages is just the beginning in terms of the problems to be resolved. Once translated, the message must, for example, be able to be displayed correctly in the space that had been designed for the original language. Hence the need to abbreviate, to split words, to know how to use the tools available in a professional and highly competent manner, etc.

That is why localisation is more complex than translation and requires specific tools and skills. Eureco S.r.l., together with other Group companies, has gained considerable experience in this area and has helped to localise some of the world's most popular software packages.
