Technology

Like many others, the world of translation has benefited from technological advances, particularly in computer technology. The figure of the translator who handwrites his translation on a sheet of paper while consulting a traditional paper dictionary is now as outdated as that of the medieval scribe.

Nowadays, our industry uses advanced technologies that exploit the limitless functionalities of the computer, which has become the "translator's best friend". On this basis, the services that we offer can essentially be divided into three categories:

  • Terminology Help: instead of dictionaries, we use glossaries with various levels of specialisation.
  • Translation Memory: enables the translator to see almost immediately how sentences similar to those being translated were translated a few moments ago or several months earlier by the same translator or by a colleague. Memories can be stored locally or on a remote server in which case a group of translators situated in different places can share the same information and ensure uniformity and consistency of terminology.
  • Machine Translation: the computer does not take the place of the translator but suggests a possible translation, which can be freely changed and adapted. This technology, still relatively limited in reach, exploits basic research in the area of "Artificial Intelligence" but can only be used when combined with a substantial level of preparatory work. The computer must be primed to use information (glossaries, memory, etc.) that is most appropriate to the text to be translated according to the specific field.

Eureco S.r.l., along with the Eureco Group, has kept itself constantly at the forefront of all these fields and uses the most advanced tools available on the market, combining these with internal development, experimentation and creation of interfaces between the various tools.
